THE OZ PROJECT is a privately held foundation whose mission is to ignite curiosity to the power and wisdom of the natural world, to inspire children and young adults to become knowledgeable stewards of the earth, and to pursue their dreams with courage and perseverance.
“Nature is the source of all true knowledge. She has her own logic, her own laws, she has no effect without cause nor invention without necessity.”
— Leonardo da Vinci
Founder and director Dianna Hutts Aston is the author of many award-winning science books for children. The Oz Project focuses on providing educational and inspirational experiences to underserved children and young adults in overlooked and undervalued communities in the United States. Young people like these are among the most motivated of all. With helping hands, they have a better chance of rising out of poverty, fulfilling their dreams, “paying it forward,” – the possibility of leaving a legacy of accomplishment and generosity.
Supporters of The Oz Project seek to accomplish this by
- Bringing authors of picture and middle grade books to schools in poverty-stricken areas that lack funding for literary events.
- Conducting writing and illustrating workshops in these schools
- Giving books to schools and libraries with meager collections
Books have the power to ignite curiosity and provide refuge. The personal presentations of writers and artists have the ability to empower children with knowledge. Teamwork is key to success.
